SYMPOSIUM OVERVIEW
The Optimizing Breast Cancer Therapy: Integrating Biologic
Approaches Into Everyday Practice satellite to the 2006 San Antonio Breast
Cancer Symposium is designed to update medical oncologists on the
latest developments in the use of biologic therapies in the treatment
of breast cancer and how to integrate these findings into their
everyday practices. This symposium will discuss the integration
of targeted therapies into current treatment regimens, including
inhibitors of the VEGF and HER2 signaling pathways as well as next-generation
targeted agents at different stages of clinical development. Patient
selection and treatment optimization will also be covered. A panel
discussion will allow participants the opportunity to receive input
on clinically relevant questions.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This satellite symposium is designed to be of high clinical utility
to medical oncologists with an interest in the treatment of breast cancer.
No specific skills or knowledge other than a basic training in oncology
are required for successful participation in this activity. Fellows,
nurses, and pharmacists in oncology are also invited to attend.
CME ACCREDITATION AND DESIGNATION
Physicians’ Education Resource is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Physicians’ Education
Resource designates this educational activity for a maximum
of 2 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the
extent of their participation in the activity.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this symposium, you should be able to:
- Discuss the current
clinical data on monoclonal antibodies targeting VEGF in advanced breast
cancer, including combinations with cytotoxic chemotherapy and potential
predictive markers for response
- List the agents
undergoing investigation in breast cancer that inhibit
angiogenesis and vasculogenesis and desribe their targets
- Evaluate
emerging treatment paradigms, including combinations of
hormonal therapies and cytotoxic chemotherapies with biologic/targeted
agents in early-stage breast cancer
- Assess
considerations for individualizing therapy for patients
with breast cancer, including improving the therapeutic
index and selecting patients for specific therapeutic approaches
- Examine
the rationale for novel antibody-based approaches to the
treatment of metastatic breast cancer
